USARC Commissioner Dr. James McCarthy Named 2018 Tyler Prize Laureate for Environmental Achievement

In May 2018, the Tyler Prize for Environmental Achievement, often described as the “Nobel Prize for the Environment,” will be jointly awarded to Dr. James McCarthy, the Alexander Agassiz Professor of Biological Oceanography at Harvard University, and to Dr. Paul Falkowski, Distinguished Professor, Bennett L. Smith Chair in Business and Natural Resources at Rutgers University, for their long-term leadership in understanding and communicating the impact of climate change. Recognizing the need for interdisciplinary environmental science and policy to understand how human activity effects the Earth’s climate, Dr. McCarthy has been at the forefront of synthesizing scientific knowledge and translating it to climate policy. He has fostered and led cooperative efforts among scientific disciplines to forge new, global-scale perspectives on environmental change. For further information, see here and here.
